Engagement Photo Album Terminology

However, designing and printing these albums often involves terminology that might not be familiar to everyone. To assist you, I’ve compiled a guide that clarifies various styles and terms related to album design, ensuring you can make informed choices about preserving your cherished memories.

Pages

This may seem like a straightforward term, but it can sometimes be confusing for clients. A page is a single side of a two-sided sheet of paper in an album.

A page spread

 in an album consists of the back of one page on the left side and the front of the following page on the right side of the fold. The left page and right page are of the same size and aspect ratio and are centered on the gutter where they are bound together at the spine.

Embossing 

is the process of creating either raised or recessed relief images and designs on paper and other materials, such as a book cover. An embossed pattern is raised against the background.

A layout

is what you see when you look at how the images are arranged on the page of the photo album. Like a magazine or a book, a photo album is designed one layout at a time.
